Service of Leave-Taking at Ascension Lutheran Church

All are invited to the closing service for Ascension Lutheran Church, Edmonton (8405 - 83 St. NW), on June 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM.

Please join Bishop Trish Schmermund and the congregation of Ascension Lutheran Church at this final service to offer thanks for ministry at Ascension, to acknowledge its history and for a sharing of the burden of pain inherent in such a separation from a place and community that has been of value in the spiritual lives of generations. Your presence in this service will be a reminder that God’s mission and the legacy of this congregation continues and extends beyond institutions and buildings.

The worship service will be followed by simple refreshments and snacks.

Perhaps the following might guide our prayer:

We thank you, O God, for brave and believing people who planted your message at Ascension Lutheran Church. We praise you for the gift of your Holy Spirit, who worked in them to gather and give order to this community, and whose wok now shifts to endings. Remembering all those who have gone before us, we pray that we may follow as they have followed, in the way, the truth, and the life, Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Amen.

Holy God, bless those who go out from Ascension to labour in new fields and to join new congregations. May the work of their hands done in your name prosper. May the gifts they share be signs of your love and hope to all they encounter.
