Meet Our Pastors and Staff

Rev. Trish Schmermund

Holy Spirit welcomed Pastor Trish and her husband Ken in August 2012. Ken and Trish live in Edmonton and have two adult children. She attended the University of Alberta (BSc in Agriculture) and completed theological studies at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon (MDiv.) Trish has also served parishes in Edson and Leduc.

She says:

"God is about love.  Always love.  It sounds so simple and yet, if you are at all awake in this world, you will know that we obviously have a lot to learn!  Keep learning, exploring, discovering all that life has to offer, because all of life is a gift from God. Take a chance and look for where God is already at work in the world."

If she's not at church you might find her in the backyard garden, on the golf course or possibly scooting around town on her motorcycle!

Rev. Lindsey Jorgensen-Skakum

Associate Pastor

Currently on Parental Leave

Pastor Lindsey was born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta. Lindsey began the journey  towards ordained ministry in 2007 when they felt God’s call to use their gifts in a new way. After completing a B.A. in Religious Studies, Lindsey enrolled at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon in 2012 to prepare for ministry within the ELCIC. In 2016 Holy Spirit called Pastor Lindsey to begin their first call with and among the congregation following their time of internship. When Pastor Lindsey isn’t at the church they can be found exploring the city with their wife Danika, or strapping on a pair of roller skates to play roller derby as “Dreamwhip” with the St. Albert Heavenly Rollers.

FLIP team (Faith and Leadership Intern Program)

Hi, my name is Anton! (He/Him) I'm 19 years old, and I’m the newest member of the FLIP team as well as a member of the tech team here at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. In my free time, I enjoy drinking coffee, playing video games, going out to train parkour or just sitting back and chatting it up with friends. During the school year, I have been working at an elementary school as a lunch supervisor. In the past, I have been an avid member of the youth group here at HSLC, going to many youth gatherings and events. I'm very excited to see where the FLIP team will take us these six months and what we have to offer for this congregation.

Hi, my name is Maija (Maya) Grove (She/Her) and I am an intern with the FLIP program! My home church is Trinity Lutheran Church, where I’ve been attending since I was four years old. I recently graduated from Victoria School of the Arts and plan on going to Kelowna’s Centre of Arts and Technology to practice animation and character design! I’m so happy to have the opportunity to work at such a lovely church and I can’t wait to meet you!

Hi, my name is Joseph. (He/Him) I have been a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church for almost a decade now, through Sunday school to Confirmation to being a HSLC staff member! I am 18 years old and I just graduated from Harry Ainlay High School. Currently I am planning to go to school for business, but I still have plenty of time to figure out where I want to go. I was originally a summer camp counsellor, working tons with youth and other counsellors so I am excited to see what I will learn from this church’s youth group and I am hoping we will do many youth activities. I am thrilled to see what projects the FLIP team will work on and how we will affect our community as a congregation positively.
